FLOOD, 2015

Photographic collages / Media sculpture

The ephemera and archive of a flooded home. Soaked pianos and saturated records result in the ruined soundtrack of a life in Musicals, Sesame Street, Men without Hats, ‘The Funeral of Winston Churchill’, Bob and Doug McKenzie and Georges Bizet. Taking the warped records from her flooded Calgary childhood home, Siebens DJ’s her way through the remnants of a 1970’s Canadian childhood. The sound distorts and repeats, resulting in a sound and media collage embedded into a sculptural vintage record player. ‘side 1, track 1: FLOOD’ examines the personal effects of floods, droughts, rising rivers, and what this means for our mothers, our families, our selves.
